Teacher Reviews

“We had the first lesson yesterday and the students loved it. The Year 8 classes were buzzing and even talking about it in the playground! I have shared it with other teachers and family members as I think it is fantastic and something I wish I had when I was their age.”

- Kate Lawrence, Year 8 Teacher, Cathedral Grammar School, Feb 2025

“Every week they are excited to start every financial literacy lesson and can't wait to see the updates to the leaderboard position each week. I have very competitive students who were motivated to complete the modules at home as well as at school. They encouraged each other to take their time to complete each module thoroughly, especially when it came to understanding the new vocabulary introduced in each module.”

- Laura Clack, Intermediate Teacher, Kohia Terrace School, Dec 2024

“My class is really enjoying MoneyTime a lot & the conversations they are having are awesome! Thank you for all the work that you do 🙂”

- Amelia King, teacher, Taieri College, Nov 2024

“It worked really well with both my classes! The students loved it and kept asking for more to be opened for homework, students who I normally need to really work on to get anything out of. Also thank you for your speedy replies in sorting things when we first logged in. Overall a great site. We will be using it next year for sure!”

- Kim Smith, Teacher/Tutor, Mathematics / Faculty Coordinator, ACG Strathallan, Sept 2024

“We had our first session on Monday and the kids loved it.  They were really engaged and there were lots of financial literacy discussions between them which was great to see.  We have spent this term investigating enterprise and entrepreneurs so this is a perfect way for the kids to link what they have been learning to the MoneyTime modules.”

- Kirsty Wilkinson, Team Leader, Roslyn School, Sept 2024

“The kids are loving it and can’t wait to do the next module.”

- Prem Rauf, teacher, Peachgrove Intermediate School, Aug 2024

“The kids are learning a lot - we have discussions about what they are investing in and why. They talk freely about compound interest and investing. It's really good content.”

- Jane Boulton, teacher, Kaikorai Valley College, Aug 2024

“Everything is going well with Room 19 and my release teacher is onboard also. Some students who worked with MoneyTime last year are whizzing through the modules. We are also holding teaching sessions from the 'guide' provided which is great. The class work on MoneyTime for 2 blocks once a week. We are both looking at results and prompting students to redo certain aspects if there is a lack of understanding.”

- Frances Thompson, teacher, Glen Eden Intermediate School, July 2024

It's been very eye-opening for them, especially my kids who told me they had an incredible knowledge of money... and have found that there is always more to learn!”

- Nat Lagah, teacher, South Makirikiri School, July 2024

- Karina Anderson, teacher, Cornerstone Christian School, June 2024

“Just wanted to feedback. Launched programme today. The engagement was almost immediate. Ākonga supported each other and took the discussion into lunchtime. It was an inside day due to the rain. Without exception all asked if they could continue on during the break. The conversation and associated language was magic. They were even discussing varying interest rates with our kai awhina who then also became engaged. Negotiated that I would make time available for them daily until the end of the term.”

- Kathy, Principal, Hāpuku School, June 2024

(Kai awhina (kaiāwhina) means Teacher Aide)

“I have a student who is NOT interested in ANYTHING except playing games on devices …. He won’t do anything else at all and as he is not allowed to do that he just sits all day in class – at least he is inside the room which is progress on last year ! However yesterday he showed a flicker of interest in MoneyTime which I have managed to fan into a flame. The motivation to be allowed to do it for half an hour after break has been sufficient for him to complete the first bit of written work he has done ALL year  - and most probably last year as well.”

- Bethwen Crockett, teacher, Taumarunui, May 2024

“My class is loving it so far, we've only done a couple of modules but they're fully engaged with the programme.  It's been good to discuss things that link to their lives such as spending unnecessary money on upgrading the looks of their avatars and comparing it to real life with spending money on gaming and making their avatar look cool and being able to do tricks etc...the conversations that have come from this have been pretty interesting and eye opening for some of them.”

- Alicia Taylor, teacher, Putaruru College, May 2024

“Thanks for providing such a meaningful program for my class.”

- Sheryn Morrow, Teacher, Te Awamutu Intermediate, Apr 2024

“My students really enjoy MoneyTime. They are often asking me to unlock modules sooner! They like the competitive aspect of it and I appreciate how they can do it independently as a follow-up task to my maths lesson. I also like how I can see what questions my students struggled with!”

- Adam Maxey, Teacher, Mercury Bay Intermediate, March 2024

“The students are completely engaged in the programme and can't wait to get on. What a great programme”

- Rowena, Year 8 teacher, St. Gerard’s Primary School, Alexandra, March 2024

- Gene Moore, Principal/Tumuaki Waituna West School, Feb 2024

”I trialled MoneyTime with a group of ‘at risk’ students who are working to get back into mainstream education. Most of the students engaged quickly and there was strong competition to be top of the leaderboard! There has been good discussion and learning. It is great listening to the kids debate the best way to invest their money and who made the most at the end of each session. It is definitely a program I want to have permanently in our curriculum.”

- Sara Kerr, Invercargill Secondary Schools Network Trust

”This is the best financial literacy programme ever!!! I have a student who now has a part time job and is actually saving for a house when they get older!!!!”

- Chrissy Smith, Deputy Principal, Paihia School

”I have been using MoneyTime with my Year 7&8 students over the past few years and I have learned so much myself!  I believe it is perfect for our secondary school students as well as kaiako! It is perfectly pitched.  Thank you for all the reminder emails as it drove me to get my akonga involved this year.”

- Charlotte Cottrell, Year 7&8 Team, TIC Enrichment Yrs 7-13, Te Aratai College

”We started the first session and my students are loving it. I'm letting them have a go at this program and they absolutely love the leaderboard! I love hearing conversations such as "How do I invest?" or "I need more education".”

- Suhanah Sapuan, Teacher, Murrays Bay Intermediate

”MoneyTime is great! It has been super successful so far and all of my students have gotten involved. We have set up our own class competition for things such as the highest net worth, the highest number of donations, and the best-dressed avatar. My students are all enjoying it and look forward to financial literacy in class.”

- Nick P, Teacher, Glen Eden Intermediate

”My students have really enjoyed the program. I have been absolutely amazed with how engaged every single one of my students have been with MoneyTime, regardless of their usual interest or ability in mathematics. It is very intuitive to use, the financial literacy vocabulary is explained clearly and the students have been really motivated by the competitive aspect.”

- Laura C, Intermediate Teacher, Kohia Terrace School.
